Pour une laïcité pleine et entière

aux Présidents des groupes parlementaires au Sénat et à l'Assemblée Nationale.



Les citoyens soussignés appellent les Français et les Françaises attachés aux principes laïques et démocratiques qui fondent notre République à manifester massivement leur opposition absolue à toute tentative de mainmise des intégrismes religieux sur notre société ; à rejeter toute initiative législative tendant à modifier ou à nier ces fondements ; à défendre la pensée libre, la liberté de conscience ainsi que la liberté d’expression et de jugement qui en est le corollaire ; à exiger de nos responsables politiques qu’ils défendent et fassent respecter avec fermeté les 3 principes suivants :

1 – La France est un pays qui a institutionnalisé le principe de Laïcité et qui l’a inscrit dans sa Constitution : ce principe doit être défendu sans concessions.

2 – La France est le pays des Lumières, et revendique l’œuvre de Voltaire, Diderot, Montesquieu, Rousseau, et de tous ceux qui ont aidé l’esprit à s’affranchir de toute croyance irrationnelle, et défendu la liberté de conscience comme la liberté d’expression. Cette dernière ne doit souffrir d’aucun «MAIS» qui ouvrirait la porte à un recul des libertés.

3 – La France est le pays de la séparation imprescriptible des Eglises et de l’Etat depuis 1905 : toutes les religions doivent pouvoir être pratiquées librement et sans ostracisme par ceux qui le souhaitent. Ceux qui ne croient pas, athées et agnostiques, ont le droit de faire valoir leur point de vue et de critiquer, dans les formes qui leur conviennent, toutes les religions, celles-ci relevant exclusivement du domaine privé : le délit de blasphème, en particulier, supprimé de nos lois il y a près de 2 siècles, ne doit pas être réintroduit par quelque biais que ce soit. C’est à la loi générale seule – expression du peuple tout entier – de fixer la règle commune.


Nous exigeons des hommes et des femmes que nous avons élus pour nous représenter dans les instances démocratiques qu’ils et elles s’engagent de manière absolue et sans restriction à défendre ce principe de laïcité.

We, the undersigned citizens, call the French men and women who cherish democracy and the concept of our French, non-religious Republic, to strongly express their absolute opposition to any attempt, from any religious fundamentalism, at controlling our society, to reject any legislative enterprise that would tend to modify or deny these foundations, to defend free-thinking, freedom of conscience, as well as freedom of speech and judgement, to demand from our politicians that they defend and firmly see to the respect of the 3 following principles :

1 – France is a democratic Republic where religions have nothing to do with the ruling of the country. This basic principle was written in our Constitution and must be defended without concessions.

2 – France is the country where Enlightenment appeared in the 18th century. We are proud of the works of Voltaire, Diderot, Montesquieu, Rousseau, and of all those who contributed to freeing our minds from the chains of irrational beliefs, and who fought for freedom of conscience as well as freedom of speech. The latter cannot suffer any « BUT » that would open the way to a setback for our freedoms.

3 – France is the country where Churches and State have been imprescriptibly separated since 1905 : those who want to practise a religion must be able to freely do so. Those who are non-believers, atheists and agnostics, have the right to express their point of view and criticize, in any form that suits them, all religions, which exclusively fall within the boundaries of private life : blasphemy, in particular, that ceased to be a legal offence nearly 2 centuries ago, must not be reintroduced in our laws through any means. Only the General Law, which is the expression of the People as a whole, can determine the Common Rule.

We demand that the men and women we have elected to be our representatives in the democratic authorities commit themselves, with no restriction, to defending this absolute principle of non-religious interference in the ruling of our country.

OUR VOTES HAVE A PRICE : THAT OF FREEDOM OF THOUGHT AND SPEECH.
