El Centro Nacional Autónomo de Cinematografía de Venezuela ha decidido no postular a la película venezolana "Secuestro Express" como candidata al Premio de la Academia en la categoría "Mejor Película Extranjera del año 2005"

"Secuestro Express" ha sido indiscutiblemente un suceso en la historia del cine venezolano. Ha logrado atraer a las salas de cine a masas de espectadores. Con 8 semanas en cartelera se ha convertido en la película más taquillera de la historia del cine nacional y en la más vista del año 2005 superando con creces a grandes producciones de Hollywood.

Esto es prueba del respaldo que nosotros, los espectadores venezolanos, le damos a esta película. No sólo por haber sido la primera producción cinematográfica realizada en nuestro país que logró un acuerdo de distribución global, sino porque por primera vez sentimos que estamos ante una película hecha en casa que cuenta con una calidad tanto técnica como actoral que la coloca al nivel de grandes producciones internacionales.

En ese sentido, queremos que uds. Miembros de la Academia de las Artes Cinematográficas, tomen en cuenta tanto los sentimientos como la opinión de todos los venezolanos abajo firmantes para quienes más allá de las decisiones de instituciones gubernamentales -más cercanas a lo político que a lo artístico-, “Secuestro Express” es la película venezolana que queremos nos represente en el prestigioso premio que uds. otorgan cada año.

Esperamos que escuchen nuestra petición y se unan a nosotros para que el arte prevalezca sobre la política.


MEMBERS OF THE ACADEMY OF MOTION PICTURES

The National Autonomous Center of Cinematography of Venezuela has decided not to nominate “Secuestro Express” as the Venezuelan candidate for the 2005 Best Foreign Film Academy Award.

Without any doubt, “Secuestro Express” has become a major event in the Venezuelan film history. It has made thousands of people attend to movie theaters, with only 8 weeks of exhibition it has become the Venezuelan most successful movie in box office in the history of Venezuelan films. And has surpassed big Hollywood productions becoming the most seen movie of the year.

This shows the support that we, the Venezuelans moviegoers, give to this film. Not just because is the first time in our history that a local film has achieve a global distribution agreement, but because for the first time we proudly feel that we are in front of a “homemade” movie with both acting and technique quality as good as any other international big production.

In that order, we would like that you Members of the Academy of Motion Pictures, consider both the feelings an opinions of all the undersigned Venezuelan that beyond any government institution –closer to politics than to art- want “Secuestro Express” to be the movie that represent us in the prestigious awards you will give this year.

We strongly hope that you hear our petition and join us so art can prevail over politics.
