This petition is made in regards to the petition created here http://www.petitiononline.com/FilABC/petition.html by Kevin Nadal to ABC. Kevin's petition is in hopes of getting ABC to offer an apology to all of the people in the Phillipines and Philipino Americans for the joke made on the TV series "Desperate Housewives". The diologue in question was "Can I just check those diplomas because I just want to make sure that they are not from some med school in the Philippines."

Kevin also goes on to say "... it is ridiculous that this type of hateful speech made it through various screenwriters, the show's producers, the show's actors, and ABC itself. "

With that statement in mind, it seems the Philipino community and Mr. Kevin Nadal are overlooking the obvious, that this was in fact a line of dialogue in a TV series spoken by a character in a fictional story. It's a hypothetical line of dialogue that the character being portrayed by the actress delivering the line might say if she or the world in which the TV show actually truly existed.

The character nor the world in which the story takes place however, exist. It is fiction.

It's not real, folks. As much as I'm sure you are obviously looking to feel victimized and make your culture felt noticed, and have people feel sorry for you, this is a very sad and pathetic way to do it. You cry hate speech and racism...People if you sincerely think what was said is hate speech and racist, you need a clue.

Having ABC give in to pressure from some of the Philipino community on this situation by offering an apology or editing out the line of dialogue may as well seal the end of free speech in art. We will have to go through every book, every film ever made in which there is text or dialogue that just may happen to offend any group or culture who can't accept the fact that just because someone has an opinion, doesn't make it true, but that person is indeed allowed to have their opinion be heard.

And it would help if these people can learn to seperate actual hate speech from fantasy.

In short, this petition is for the Philipino community and Kevin Nadal, to grow up.

It also demands that ABC does not cater to the cries of the Philipino community and censor or apologize for something that doesn't deserve one, or else the world can start to face a domino effect of political correctness to the point where you can't open your mouth without someone crying racism or hate speech. This is getting ridiculous. Help put a stop to it here and now.

Sincerely,

The Undersigned
