To:  WEAA, 88.9

We, the undersigned, adamantly object to the recent decision by WEAA 88.9 - a non-profit, National Public Radio Station licensed and owned by Morgan State University - to discontinue broadcasting THE POWERS REPORT.

As reported on its website, WEAA 88.9 provides "social, political, and multicultural programs in an effort to raise the consciousness of the listening audience about societal diversity." THE POWERS REPORT is a well-written, professionally-produced, community-based talk show that provides relevant social and political commentary regarding the multi-faceted issues facing families throughout Baltimore and across the nation.

History provides strong evidence to support the important connection and role of public radio in giving voice to the community at-large. WEAA 88.9 in its decision to discontinue THE POWERS REPORT has silenced an important voice in the Baltimore community - one that spoke truth to power no matter how difficult or sensitive the topic. Public radio stations like WEAA 88.9 were created to provide a venue for diverse ideas, discussion, and debate, no matter how controversial. WEAA 88.9 must remain true to its mantra "to raise the consciousness of the listening audience about societal diversity.

THE POWERS REPORT provides a diverse perspective to its listening audience. Through the use of interviews, commentaries, and talk radio, THE POWERS REPORT challenges the status quo by providing a unique perspective to its listening audience.

We, the undersigned, request that WEAA 88.9 reverse its decision and allow THE POWERS REPORT to air during its regular time on Tuesday nights effective January 30th.

Sincerely,

The Undersigned
