Say NO to a GST in Hong Kong |
To: The Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative RegionTo: The Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region
We, concerned citizens and visitors, strenuously oppose the implementation of a Goods and Services Tax in Hong Kong.
A GST is an unfair and highly regressive tax which will increase the burden on consumers and businesses alike, in both monetary terms and in wasted time. Bureaucratic costs will consume much of the generated revenue. Vital industries such as tourism and retail will be harmed.
Moreover, once the tax is in place, we believe a GST increase would be inevitable, which is wholly unacceptable.
A GST is unnecessary, complicated, expensive and will damage Hong Kong's status as a "shopper's paradise". Furthermore, it will promote a black-market economy as people seek to avoid the tax.
We demand that the tax system be kept the way it is: simple and inexpensive to monitor.
We refuse to accept a GST in any form, at any time.Sincerely,
