The Doors VH1 Decades Rock Live

The debut episode of VH1 Classic's "Decades Rock Live" was to feature a thrilling performance of Riders on The Storm (formerly Doors of the 21st Century). All who attended the filming and all those involved have said the performance was nothing short of amazing. The show was titled "Riders on the Storm: A tribute to The Doors" and it featured numerous guest stars in addition to the lineup of Riders on the Storm.

Unfortunately, John Densmore, former drummer for The Doors, has stopped the sync license(s) from being allowed and therefore, the program cannot be aired. Jeff Jampol, current manager of The Doors, is named in this petition due to his inability and apparent unwillingness to help settle this issue. There are also reports of Jampol calling the entire production of the VH1 program "tacky"

Two important facts should be considered here:

1- In an October 5th, 2005 Los Angeles Times article, John said that he would not dispute the band’s new name “Riders on the Storm”

Quote from the article:

For the time being, Manzarek has said that the band will continue on with the name Riders on the Storm. Densmore said he would not dispute them on that.

2- John has said since the beginning of his lawsuit against the band way back in 2003 regarding their name that he doesn’t begrudge the band from playing Doors songs.

Quote from John’s 2003 press release:

My partners are free to play under any other name and any other logo, as the members of many bands from the same era are doing.

With both of these facts considered, there is NO given reason as to why John Densmore objects to this program to be aired. The band changed their name per John’s court issued order (the program’s title reflects this change) and he has never disputed them playing Doors songs live. Clearly his and manager Jeff Jampol's intent runs deeper than they admit.

Many have said that the program was so brilliant that once it airs, massive amounts of people would see how good Riders on the Storm are- in effect embarrassing John Densmore and his stance against the band. Whatever the case, a lot of money was spent on production of this television show and we fans desperately want to see it aired.

You cannot petition the lord with prayer but hopefully we can petition John and Jeff with music.
